SINCE RETURNING TO ANIMATION SERIES TWO WORDS IN NOV 2016, 15 REVIEWS HAVE BEEN UPLOADED + 1,000 VIEWS RECEIEVED.
I aimed for a quiet launch with my new Two Words 2016 to focus on initial feedback and make adjustments weekly without pressure. This iterating improvement style will continue, but in 2017 I think Two Words is ready to go public.
I'm proud of it, and I'm deeply grateful to those who are giving their honest feedback. I created a new trailer for the new series based on the style of the original 2011 trailer, introducing Frank.
A slow start, but views are rising - from 0 to 1,000 in the first three months. More importantly, viewers watch around 77% of each video on average. Until now, each video's end pointed to the next review, so ideally that percentage wouldn't hit 100. Viewers watch 2 - 3 seconds of the 8 second outro, so I've shortened the endings to 4 seconds. With a small library of reviews now collecting in the 'related' sidebar, I'm able to remove the 'next video' call-to-action and replace it with a "New Review Every Tuesday" reminder.
I've been trying to promote the series and have had small to mid response. However, I was blown away by the view count to the Donald Trump (500+) and Arrival (200+) reviews. There's more work needed to spread the word, but it's a promising start.
The most common feedback is that Frank can't be heard easily. I'm improving my recording equipment and location as a direct result of this, and words now appear on-screen as they're spoken - great for GIFs too!
As I learn more about what can be done with Illustrator and After Effects, I'm adding in more and more detail. Most on-screen objects are subtly layered in 3D so I can move a handheld 3D camera and get some interesting shots in minutes that would have taken weeks with stop-motion. I've got some bold plans on how to expand the youtube channel too.
IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS ON HOW THE SERIES COULD IMPROVE
PLEASE EMAIL ME AND I'LL TAKE IT ALL ON BOARD.
